Statement:
I am running against a career politician incumbent who has done little for the district in his ten years of office and spread election conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. He does not belong in office. CA-1 deserves a service-oriented moderate who will deliver on critical forest management and water policy reforms.

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Would you (or did you) support the federal "Equality Act" (H.R. 5) creating a protected class for sexual orientation and gender identity be passed into law? N* I support much of this act. I oppose Sections 4 (Public Facilities) and 6 (federal programs, including sports).
2. Would you (or did you) support the federal “Respect for Marriage Act” (H.R. 8404) which requires states to recognize polygamous marriages? Y* I support H.R. 8404. I support the right of homosexual couples to marry. The assertion that this bill is a backdoor for polygamy is absurd. It is illegal in every state. You are regurgitating a scare tactic, which reflects poorly on the drafter of this question, the editor who approved it, and CFV. You are opposed to same-sex marriage. I disagree with you, but I respect your - presumably sincere - religious belief. To say that you are actually opposed to HR 8404 due to polygamy is disingenuous and dishonest.
3. Should adult citizens be required to pass a background check before buying ammunition? Y* This background check must be free and rapid.
4. Would you (or did you) support a federal law (H.R. 8296) removing nearly all restrictions on abortion procedures throughout pregnancy? Y* I am pro-choice. This law would protect the reproductive freedom of women. "Removing nearly all restrictions" is completely inaccurate.
5. Should the federal government require public district and charter schools to allow biological boys in girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers, and on female-only sports teams as a condition to receive federal education funding? N
6. Would you support securing the border by blocking crossings from undocumented migrants? Y
7. Would you support federal judges who apply the original text of the U.S. Constitution according to the framers’ original intent, rather than interpreting it in light of current times? N* Originalism allows judges to assume what the framers "really meant" when interpreting law. As modern judges have no ability to actually know what the framers intended, it is hugely open to abuse.
8. Would you support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring Congress to balance the federal budget every year? N* We haven't balanced the budget since Clinton. To try to do so would be an economic disaster.
9. Would you (or did you) support a law (H.R. 1) requiring the federal government to take over local and state election processes? Y* HR does not "take over" local elections - it protects those elections from partisan interference.
10. Would you support the filibuster rule that requires 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to pass most legislation? N* It is anti-democratic and weakens the Legislative branch vis-a-vis the Executive and Judicial branches. It also has nothing to do with the Christian faith. It s clear from these questions that CFV is a far-right ideological group masquerading as a Christian organization. What kind of Christian organization fails to ask a single question about the poor, the hungry, and the sic? I am a Roman Catholic. I believe that I share some of your concerns, but your overwhelming focus on culture war touchpoints rather than helping those less fortunate makes clear that we have taken very different lessons from our shared Christian faith.
